Seminaries, Divinity, & Graduate Schools

Below is a list of reputable institutions (some more than others, depending upon who is asked) that I and friends of mine considered for seminary and grad work.  Currently, I am enrolled in an MDiv program at Andover Newton Theological School (part of the Boston Theological Institute). I will probably also concurrently enroll in the MA of Theological Research (at ANTS), if it seems necessary and possible, or after attaining the MDiv, apply for an extra year for a ThM (in one of the BTI schools) with a concentration in Hebrew Bible while applying to PhD programs.

See my post, The Gymnasium and What I am Looking for in a Graduate Program. And also check out this hilarious post from the guys over at Homebrewed Christianity: Divinity School Application For Liberals.

For help with the financial burden that often times comes with a theological education I direct you to the resources made available at The Fund for Theological Education.

*** identifies one of only five graduate schools of religion/Divinity Schools in the United States without a denominational affiliation (though historic ties may exist).

^^^identifies a traditionally Christian-only identifying seminary that is or is in the process of training more than just Christians as religious leaders, i.e., an interfaith or multifaith platform (this excludes schools of Divinity that have connections to universities)

  • Collaborative Institutions:
  1. Boston Theological Institute (Boston, MA)
  2. Graduate Theological Union (San Francisco/Oakland, CA)
  3. Association of Chicago Theological Schools (Chicago, IL)
  4. Union Theological Seminary’s “Neighbor Program” (New York, NY)
